Welcome

Stout-Hearted Hounds is not a kennel name per-se, I do not breed dogs in fact most of my dogs are rescues, but I wanted a name for my pack and I believe that Stout-Hearted is the best way to describe them. The name comes from a song titled "Stout-Hearted Men." The song was performed in a film called New Moon that was made in 1938 and starred Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. I am classic movie buff and an avid dog fancier but at this point I am dedicated exclusively to Greyhounds, Toy Fox Terriers and Rat Terriers.

The Greyhound is an ancient breed of Celtic sighthound (dogs that hunt by sight) that originated in central Europe. The Greyhound is an athletic dog that can reach speeds of up to 40 mph, however, they like to spend the majority of their time sleeping. They are loving, gentle, playful, beautiful and incredibly calm and easy-going. Being around Greyhounds is a very peaceful and relaxing experience indeed.

Terriers are almost the polar opposite of sighthounds. They are very active, have incredible endurance and are very bold considering how small they are. They are not a dog for the faint of heart, but they are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and to keep you laughing all the time! The Rat Terrier was originally bred as an all-purpose farm dog who could take down all kinds of vermin and could even serve as a recreational hunting dog. The Toy Fox Terrier, or TFT, was bred down in size from the Smooth Fox Terrier and was infused with other breeds such as the Chihuahua and Toy Manchester Terrier to serve mostly as a companion. However, these feisty little dogs are fully capable of catching mice and small rats and enjoy doing so. Like Greyhounds, terriers can be stubborn and are not very willing to please, but it's that sort of personality that keeps things from being dull.
