Buffy
Buffy is my keeper puppy from my second Greyhound litter out of Bonnie and Dude. That litter blessed me with 8 puppies in total - four girls and four boys. From birth, she was notable for being the one and only dilute colored puppy in the litter - a color I typically do not find very appealing. I had been hoping to get a red fawn female, something to remind me of my very first Greyhound, Cali, and there were two of those in the litter, complete with beautiful black masks - so the thought of keeping the little blue fawn baby never seriously entered my mind at that time.
But as they grew, even in the first couple of weeks when puppies really start to take shape as little dogs rather than little squirming worms, the little blue fawn puppy started catching my attention. There was just something about her - she never fussed, she never cried or otherwise indicated any displeasure about anything around her, she loved being held, and she had that pudgy, round shape that always draws me in. I really struggled to come to terms with my affinity for her, second guessing myself constantly, but every week on picture day she continued to look more and more promising. By the time they were 8 weeks old, the choice was clear, and here she stayed.
Buffy has brought me nothing but pure joy, and she has blossomed into one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever bred or ever seen in my relatively short time in this breed. Like her mother, Bonnie, she has an unflappable joie de vivre and passion for play. I was actually worried that Bonnie's dominant personality would force Buffy to live in her mother's shadow, but since coming of age she has become her own version of a little spitfire.
Buffy was a precocious hare dog and put several in the bag her first season running, even before she turned a year old. She is also coming along well with her race training, debuting as a single in the spring of 2026. Although she probably will never be as keen for a lure as she is for live game, she still enjoys a romp behind a plastic bag, and I hope she will enjoy success on the field in the years to come.
