Opal is a miniature Rat Terrier that we adopted from a local animal shelter. True to her name, she has shown herself to be a diamond in the rough. Her small size and cute exterior easily give the impression that she is simply a lap dog, but inside her 12 inch, 8 lb frame lies a spirit born to run. Opal's passion in life is running; whether it's racing or coursing she lives for the lure. The first time she laid eyes on the bunny she wanted it, and nothing has stopped her since.

In short order Opal completed the requirements for her first set of UKC racing titles, and has since gone on to earn both her UKC flat and steeplechase racing championships. She was also ranked as the #1 racing terrier (10"-12.5" division) in the UKC's Terrier Racing All Stars! To top it all off, Opal ended up winning back to back Fastest Flat Racer and Fastest Steeplechase Racer at the American Rat Terrier Association's National Specialty.

Even outside the UKC race track, Opal has proven to be a formidable competitor at the all-breed sprint racing meets, taking home several high score and top five awards. She consistently impresses on-lookers, judges and lure operators alike with her speed and form. Not wanting to stop there Opal has also revealed herself to be a fine little lure courser even though Rat Terriers are not officially eligible to compete at this time.

When she's not burning rubber on the track, her favorite thing to do is cuddle and give kisses. She also enjoys a good game of chase with her BFF Beryl, or a little bit of tug-o-war and some toy de-stuffing. Opal has truly been an inspiration for our team. Watching her develop and succeed despite her rough start in life is something that we think anyone can appreciate, and we are just so thrilled to have her in our lives.
