Cali is the one who started it all. She is my very first Greyhound and the alpha bitch of the house. After having spent my childhood with small breeds I must admit she was quite intimidating at first. That soon wore off as soon as we got her home. She settled in quickly and soon became the couch queen she is today. In public, Cali maintains her stately appearances and prefers not to mingle with other dogs that she feels are too immature in nature. While she may be aloof with strangers, Cali definitely has a silly side that she reserves for those closest to her.

Cali was born on March 24th 2001 in Arizona, and raced briefly in Mexico before she was placed up for adoption. I adopted her from Greyhound Pets of America Sacramento Valley on Thanksgiving of 2004. Ever since she came into my life I have fallen in love with the Greyhound breed. They are beautiful creatures, inside and out, and while they can be stubborn and independent at times you are gauranteed a lifetime of love and devotion.

When I first got Cali I was interested in lure coursing with her. Unfortunately, this plan never really took off due to the fragility of her feet. I thought that her running career had to be put on the shelf, and then we discovered racing. Racing was much easier on Cali's feet, and she took to it like the pro that she is. She ran successfully for about 3 years until we decided to retire her in 2008.

Although her competitive days are over, Cali still makes occasional guest appearances at the races. In the short time she was running she took home many high score awards as well as high score veteran awards. She made it half way to her GRC before retirement.
